Time Flies!

Here's a rapid overview of some classroom activities over the last few weeks!  I can't believe how fast time is flying!  Students were busy creating Remembrance Day Poppy Art with tissue paper and glue and these made a beautiful display in the hallway.

Secondly students have been working diligently on some art to emphasis our monthly throughline "Servant- Working".  This should be gracing the walls of the school any day now.

A fun artsy activity (as we waited for our classmates to finish painting)  to create some "fireworks" like those we had read about in one of our social studies read aloud books "Lights for Gita".

 Time for a stretch!

Math Learning Centres were available throughout our Addition and Subtraction Strategies unit and provided lots of opportunity to practice math facts using fun manipulatives, games and activities.

Moving on to our new unit of measurement!

A glimpse inside our Writer's Workshop:  students have their own writing folder to keep all of their ideas and first drafts.  Step 1:  Students write 4 or 5 completed pieces.

Step 2:  Students choose a piece they wish to publish and "read it to the wall" to start the editing process, fixing their mistakes as needed.

Step 3:  Students ask a peer to edit their work and check for Capitalization, Organization, Punctuation and Spelling (COPS)
Step 4:  Students conference with the teacher who types up the final copy and prints it out.  Students then cut and paste their paragraphs to form a published book.

Step 5 Students illustrate their book.
Step 6:  Students participate in our Author's Chair opportunity to read aloud their writing and share it with their classmates.  Once teacher's and parent's have commented on a published piece it is given a place of honour in the classroom where other students may enjoy reading it.

Students are working well during our Writer's Workshop and we're hoping to have many more published storybooks over the course of the year!
